Meet Hans — and his HK guide network

Hello! I'm Hans, a German-speaking guide — Hong Kong has been my home since 1994. What started as showing friends "my" city has grown into hundreds of private tours for guests from all over the world — and the five-star reviews they leave speak for themselves. I get to meet fantastic people of every age and background, and after decades of sharing this city's history, culture and hidden corners, I formalised my passion and became an accredited Hong Kong tourist guide.

During my licensing course I met a group of equally passionate, international guides. Together we formed a small network — the same professional, licensed guides that big platforms hire — so you always deal personally with the guide who will actually lead your tour.

And a quiet word of thanks to Jamie — the ultimate tour guide and godfather of all Hong Kong tour guides — for his guidance, support and inspiration along the way. This trade is better because of him.

  • Fully private tours — your pace, your interests
  • Honest local knowledge from 30+ years in the city
  • Hundreds of tours guided, with five-star reviews on every platform
  • Patient and experienced with kids, teenagers and elderly guests — tours paced for every generation, and children under 16 join free of charge
  • Every guest is welcome exactly as they are — couples, families, solo travellers, LGBTQ+ guests. You'll be treated warmly and equally, always
  • If I'm fully booked, a trusted colleague from my network guides you
  • Bookings arranged through a licensed Hong Kong travel agency

What visitors say

★★★★★

"Hans was fantastic — so flexible, patient, kind and knowledgeable with our four young boys as we navigated Hong Kong for a day. He struck a great balance of culture, history and connection. My 7-year-old said it best: 'Hans was a nice friend to spend the day with!'"

— Britt W., family of six · Tripadvisor
★★★★★

"I am 81 and was travelling alone. Hans was very mindful of my safety and well-being throughout the tour — very trustworthy and personable. He customized the tour very well for my interests and conveyed his infectious love for Hong Kong."

— Connie P., solo traveller, USA · Tripadvisor
★★★★★

"He offered us a taste of fresh mangosteen, hand sanitizer after every trolley stop, even a charge-up of our phones with his backup battery — and dinner recommendations. Hans thought of everything! Truly a wonderful day and so worth it."

— Albert T. · Tripadvisor

"Unsere Tour mit Hans in Hongkong war einfach außergewöhnlich. Mit viel Empathie hat er sich ganz auf unsere Interessen eingestellt und uns in versteckte Ecken geführt, an die man als normaler Besucher nie gekommen wäre. Dadurch haben wir Hongkong nicht nur gesehen, sondern wirklich erlebt!"

— Betina, Deutschland · GetYourGuide
★★★★★

"So attentive — he sent us a detailed itinerary before our trip. When we struggled to get back from Kowloon one evening, we messaged him and he called us straight away and directed us. What fantastic service, way above and beyond."

Good to know

Frequently asked questions

How much walking is involved?
That's entirely up to you. Classic city tours involve a few hours of relaxed walking with plenty of stops — but I adapt every route to your fitness level. With taxis or private transport, even guests with limited mobility can enjoy a full day.
Can children and seniors join?
Absolutely — families are my speciality. I pace the day around the youngest and oldest members, plan breaks, and keep kids and teenagers entertained with stories, snacks and fun transport like the Star Ferry, trams and the Peak Tram.
Do you pick us up at the hotel, cruise terminal or train station?
Yes. I meet you at your hotel lobby, the cruise terminal, the airport, or West Kowloon Station if you arrive by high-speed train — wherever suits you best. Just mention it in your enquiry — airport and cruise terminal pickup carries no surcharge.
How does payment work?
In line with Hong Kong law, your booking is contracted through our licensed partner agency, Excella Travel (HK) Ltd (Licence No. 351074), which accepts Visa, Mastercard, Amex, UnionPay and PayPal. For high-season bookings, larger groups or tours including transport, a down payment may be requested.
What happens if it rains or a typhoon approaches?
Hong Kong weather can change quickly, but tours rarely fail because of it. I always have a rainy-day plan: covered markets, temples, museums and the famous ding-ding trams. If official weather warnings make touring unsafe, we reschedule or agree a fair solution together.
Are transport and admission fees included?
Unless stated otherwise, tour prices cover my guiding service. Public transport, admissions and meals are paid on the day — the advantage: you only pay for what you actually use, and public transport in Hong Kong is wonderfully cheap.
What does a private tour cost?
The basic private tour costs HK$1,600 for 4 hours with up to 2 guests (low season, April–September). Additional hours beyond the first 4 cost HK$350 per hour. High season (October–March), larger groups and special requests receive a custom quote. Transport, admissions and meals are extra — phone charging and an emergency Wi-Fi hotspot are on me.
How far in advance should I book?
The earlier the better, especially for weekends and peak season (October–December, Chinese New Year, Easter). But it's always worth asking — sometimes I can fit in spontaneous guests at short notice.
