Hans's Favourite: Peak + Lantau Grand Day — 8 Hours

If friends visit me for just one day, this is the day I give them. Up the Peak before the city wakes, then across to Lantau in a comfortable car — Tai O's stilt houses in the quiet morning, the Big Buddha in the calm afternoon. My favourite tour, bar none.

Tian Tan Big Buddha above misty Lantau mountains

This is the tour I would book for my own family. An early start (trust me on the 8:00 — you'll thank me at the Peak), a private car with driver and the essential Lantau permit, and a route that does the island backwards compared to every tour group: Tai O first, Buddha second. Same sights, half the crowds.

Pickup: 8:00 sharp at your hotel, anywhere on Hong Kong Island or in Kowloon. The car, driver and Lantau permit are arranged with licensed local operators I have worked with for years.

Sample itinerary

HK$4,500 (≈ US$575 · €500)
8 hours · guide fee, transport separate · up to 4 guestsAll prices are for a private group of up to 4 guests; each additional guest HK$400 (≈ US$50 · €45). Children under 17 join free on private family tours. Cruise-ship days, public holidays and special transport arrangements are quoted separately. On me: bottled water, plus MTR, Ding Ding tram and Star Ferry rides during the tour (Airport Express not included). Other transport, admissions and meals are paid on the day — you only pay for what you actually use. And at the end of the day: if time permits, I'll happily bring you back to your hotel myself — and if not, I always make sure you know exactly how to get home: I'll talk to the taxi driver for you, help you book an Uber, or walk you through the public transport route before we say goodbye. In accordance with Hong Kong law (Cap. 634), confirmed bookings are handled through a licensed Hong Kong travel agent.
💡 Hans says: Why 8:00? At 8:30 the Peak belongs to us. At 10:30 it belongs to everyone. And on Lantau, Tai O at 10:45 is a village; at 13:00 it's a queue. Timing is everything — it's the one thing a guide really sells.
